Verizon, CenturyLink Gush Over Trump’s FCC Chair Pick

President-elect Donald Trump will designate a new FCC chairman and will pick a Republican for the post.
A robocall, for example, can be a call from someone claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service, and saying you owe the government money and will be arrested unless you pay immediately.
Verizon. Frontier. CenturyLink. XO Communications. Mitel. IBM. Those telecom and IT giants were only a handful of the companies making M&A waves in the past two months.
The agency’s actions, which include a proposal to apply a “technology-neutral framework” to the regulation of business data services, drew condemnation from the cable industry and large incumbent phone carriers.
Approval of the mega-merger comes with conditions, since the government filed an antitrust lawsuit over concerns that the new company would have a greater incentive and ability to impose restrictions on programmers.
Tom Wheeler also noted that two additional merger conditions would bolster Internet regulations that took effect earlier this year.
Speaking at The Brookings Institution just two weeks after a federal court refused to put on hold Title II regulation, Tom Wheeler cited “a disconnect between what is said in Washington advocacy and what happens in the market.”
Responding to the chairman’s proposal, T-Mobile said consumers would benefit if others beside AT&T and Verizon obtained the spectrum.
Last month, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler proposed a solution to make the Internet affordable for low-income Americans: Include broadband in the multibillion-dollar Lifeline program.
