Channel People on the Move: Vonage, CenturyLink, Masergy, More

Vonage, CenturyLink, PlanetOne, TCG and TPx are among the vendors and master agents making personnel moves of note in July.

Those are just five of the 24 companies featured in this edition of Channel People on the Move. We packed nearly three-dozen of your friends, colleagues and rivals into our monthly gallery.

We’re heavy on channel chiefs again. Vonage and Masergy are among those hiring new people to these positions. There were also a few surprise exits, including shake-ups at CenturyLink, Dell and VMware.

Of course, we have plenty of channel manager changes for you as well, like those at AireSpring. Distributors got into the action too, with a new chief diversity officer at ScanSource and a promotion at Tech Data.

CenturyLink's Ed Morche and Lisa Miller

Lisa Miller is out and Ed Morche is in at CenturyLink.

Miller left her role as the company's president of wholesale, indurect and SME. No word yet where  the longtime Level 3/CenturyLink vet has landed. That paved the way for Ed Morche, CenturyLink's president of North America enterprise and public sector, to step into her old channel role.

Like Miller, Morche was with Level 3 for many years before CenturyLink acquired it in 2017.

"CenturyLink has a long commitment to the indirect channel, which spans more than 25 years — and we have been unwavering. Our commitment will not change," Morche told Channel Partners in this Q&A.

Garrett Gee remains in his role as channel chief, and will report to Morche.
Vonage's Curt Allen

Vonage's Curt Allen

Curt Allen stepped into the Vonage channel chief role after Mario DeRiggi vacated it for a similar gig at Fusion Connect.

Of course, the channel knows Allen from his years at X4 Solutions, Sandler Partners and Windstream.

TCG's Brandon Baker and Ed Kane

Master agent TCG introduced a pair of new hires.

Brandon Baker (left) is a new national channel manager. He looks forward to using his 12 years of experience to help partners make more money. Baker previously worked in various roles at Comcast Business for seven years.

Ed Kane is also new to TCG, the company's director of national expansion. His last job was channel manager for Net2phone. But his experience also includes stops at Mitel and Broadvoice.

Master agent Sandler Partners had a flurry of new hires to announce in July.

Among them, clockwise from top left: Luke O'Shaugnessy, sales engineer, a CenturyLink, Zayo and Equinix alumnus; Justin Noller, director of channel, New England region, a NICE InContact and Kingcom veteran; Vincent Helfrich, director of channel, New York, who comes from Mitel; and Ben Magday, director of channel, Mid-Atlantic, who spent time at Navisite and TierPoint.

PlanetOne's Chris Werpy

Master agent PlanetOne turned to Chris Werpy, formerly with Masergy, to be its new chief operating officer.

Werpy spent 13 years at Masergy, one of PlanetOne's preferred providers. He most recently was senior vice president of solutions and services for the company. He did his first deal with PlanetOne back in 2012.

Mobile Solutions' Greg Plum

Mobile Solutions' Greg Plum

Greg Plum, a fixture in the telecom channel for many years, just took the channel chief job at Mobile Solutions.

Plum has built channel sales programs from scratch, including at, a premium brand. He also was a founding member of the CompTIA telecom advisory council.

TPx's Don Joos

TPx's Don Joos

You probably know Don Joos best from his role as president and CEO of PGi. But he's on to new things, namely the chief executive role at TPx Communications.

Joos' background includes being the president and CEO of ShoreTel before Mitel acquired it in 2017. Before that, he called Avaya home, where he was VP of global services.

“My technology sector expertise, executive leadership capabilities and experience driving corporate transformation make me well suited to take the reins at TPx," said Joos.

T-Mobile personnel gallery July 2020

T-Mobile's Amy Rintamaki and Paul Spencer

Amy Rintamaki is T-Mobile's new director of partner programs and alliances. She comes over to T-Mo via the company's acquisition of Sprint. where she spent 14 years. Most recently, she was Sprint's director of channel sales.

A three-year T-Mobile veteran, Paul Spencer makes the jump from senior sales manager to director, channel partner sales.

Both Rintamaki and Spencer will report to T-Mobile channel chief Tim Acker.
Nextiva's Eric Martorano

Nextiva's Eric Martorano

Eric Martorano is the new chief revenue officer at Nextiva. There, he will oversee global revenue strategy and go-to-market initiatives as head of Nextiva’s sales organization.

Martorano's last gig was chief executive of Accordo Group, which MarketStar recently acquired. Before that, he was a CRO at Intermedia and general manager of Microsoft’s U.S. channel sales division.
Masergy's Jim Glackin

Masergy's Jim Glackin

Jim Glackin is the new channel chief at Masergy, the networking provider. The new senior VP of global channel will oversee channel go-to-market efforts and lead its partner relationships.

Glackin joins Masergy from CenturyLink, where he most recently was VP of strategic partners. He was there for 16 years, after 10 at AT&T.

Cytracom's Meredith Caram

Cytracom's Meredith Caram

Much of the channel knows Meredith Caram from her days with the AT&T Partner Exchange program. Now, after a stint at Intrado, where she focused on new sales and partner engagement, she's on to Cytracom.

Cytracom provides cloud voice and messaging services for MSPs.

The new VP of sales says Cytracom "has been on my radar for some time." That's because of its "tremendous growth in the channel," she told Channel Partners.

AireSpring named a flurry of new channel managers who previously called CenturyLink, IDT/Net2phone and Masergy home.

Fredric Worthy (top left) is the CenturyLink vet, now regional channel manager for AireSpring in Florida; Grant Whyard (middle) comes from IDT/Net2phone, taking a channel manager role in some mid-Atlantic states; Rod Nichols (right), who covers Houston, southeast Texas and Louisiana, came from Masergy; and Patrick Harrison (bottom left) is responsible for the Midwest, bringing experience from IDT/Net2phone and Time Warner Cable.
ScanSource's Ken Peterson

ScanSource's Ken Paterson

Distributor ScanSource introduced a diversity and inclusion program, and named Ken Paterson its first chief diversity officer.

Paterson maintains his title as senior director of human resources with the company. In his new role, he will run training for team members to establish a common language and foundation around diversity and inclusion.

Peerless Network Personnel July 2020

Peerless Network's Doug Littrell and James Cook

Doug Littrell (left) and James Cook are new channel sales directors for Peerless Network in the Southeast and Midwest, respectively.

Littrell's previous jobs include regional channel manager at Talkdesk and national account director at Mitel. Cook has been with the company for five years; this is a promotion from sales account manager.

Peerless Network is a VoIP and cloud PBX provider.

Tech Data's John O'Shea

Tech Data's John O'Shea

John O'Shea is the new president of the Americas for Tech Data. It's a promotion for O'Shea, who most recently led the company's global life cycle management business unit. 

O'Shea takes over for Joe Quaglia, who retired from the distributor.

“I am extremely energized to lead our Americas region and to help drive Tech Data’s transformation ... " said O'Shea.
VMware's Jenni Flinders

VMware's Jenni Flinders

Many were surprised to learn of Jenni Flinders' departure from VMware. That's particularly considering there was little fanfare around it.

Last month, the virtualization giant confirmed Flinders' exit, but didn't even mention it in June when announcing her replacement, Sandy Hogan. Flinders was channel chief for a little more than two years. In a statement to Channel Futures, VMware said Flinders "made a personal career decision to leave the company, effective June 11."

Dell's Joyce Mullen

Dell's Joyce Mullen

Another powerhouse in IT leadership stepped away. Joyce Mullen, global channel leader for Dell for nearly three years, was with the IT giant for 21 years.

Mullen didn't say specifically what's next on her agenda. But Dell released a statement attributed to her:

"After 21 years, I’ve made the extremely difficult decision to move on to a new challenge. ... I’d like to thank all of our partners for the collaboration and friendship over the years. It’s all of you who have made my time here so memorable. I will always be cheering for Dell Technologies.”

High Wire Networks' Ryan Harrison

High Wire Networks' Ryan Harrison

Ryan Harrison is now part of the High Wire Networks Overwatch team, where he serves as senior manager of cybersecurity. His goal is to help MSPs develop cybersecurity programs for their business clients.

Before landing at High Wire, Harrison helped build and grow a global SOC for EBSCO Industries.
Twilio's Michelle Grover

Twilio's Michelle Grover

Twilio, the platform-as-a-service company, named Michelle Grover its first chief information officer. She is responsible for improving the company's technology systems and processes.

“I am most proud of my experience getting more diverse people into leadership roles at technical companies,” Grover said. That includes at her previous job, senior VP of software development at SAP Concur.

ChannelAssist's Doug Vilm

ChannelAssist's Doug Vilim

ChannelAssist, a channel management incentives and engagement provider, hired Doug Vilim as VP of global sales. Vilim has 23 years of experience. His job includes getting more clients and working to grow ChannelAssist's professional and technology services.

Vilim's last gig was VP of sales for Sangoma, the UC and UCaaS provider. He built a team that sold across the Americas and EMEA.

Cloudera's Gary Green

Cloudera's Gary Green

Cloudera, the enterprise data cloud company, hired Gary Green as its VP of strategic partnerships. That means he will lead the Cloudera channel program.

His last job was bare metal automation vendor Packet. But his history in the channel dates back to the beginning of his career at Mentor Graphics and Synopsys. He might be best known as VP of strategic alliances at VMware in the early 2000s.

Automox's Russ Eddleman

Automox's Russ Eddleman

Russ Eddleman is the new VP of channel at Automox, the automated patching provider. It's the first formal partner program for the company.

Eddleman previously was the global VP of partners and alliances at Resolve Systems; before that, he was Ivanti's VP of OEM and strategic alliances. The new Automox partner program includes VARs, MSPs, technology alliances and OEM integration partners.
Cato Networks' Anthony D'Angelo

Cato Networks' Anthony D'Angelo

Cato Networks wants its partners to grow their secure access service edge (SASE) businesses. And now, Anthony D'Angelo will be a part of that as the company's VP of global channel sales and business development.

The new partner leader's experience is vast, including most recently leading Cisco's global SD-WAN partner sales. Before that, he ran worldwide channel sales and distribution at SD-WAN provider Viptela.

Gigamon's Larissa Crandall

Gigamon's Larissa Crandall

Larissa Crandall is Gigamon's new vice president of worldwide channels. It's a promotion for Crandall, whose last position was senior director of Americas channel.

Her job is to drive global channel strategy. The company says Crandall will work with Gigamon's various got-to-market and corporate teams to ensure a channel-first approach.
