Master agent and distributor CarrierSales held its annual partner event, carrierXchange, Sept. 18-20, high up in the mountains at Zermatt Resort outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. The event drew 370 partners and vendors from 34 states and two countries, and more than 60 telecommunications and technology providers in a vendor expo.

The conference included a kickoff event featuring 2017 Football Hall of Fame inductee Terrell Davis and Olympic gold medalist Derek Parra; diamond-sponsor presentations; breakout sessions; partner and vendor awards; entertainment; and a golf tournament.

CarrierSales CEO/owner Richard Murray said his company was the No. 1 contact-center partner last year in the United States, “and we’ve doubled that number.”

2017 Football Hall of Fame inductee and former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis gave an inspirational speech and held a lengthy Q&A with attendees.

Murray described his company as “big enough to matter, small enough to care.” The company is focused on strategic deal-closing and consultation for partners, as well as providing engineering, marketing and technology.

“We want to know you guys; we want to be involved in your business,” he said. “So we work really, really hard; we go for the best terms in the industry. We take it seriously how we protect your revenue; that will continue to be our focus.”

Breakout Sessions

During a partner breakout session, Mike Rodriguez, speaker, best-selling author, and sales and leadership expert, talked about taking pride in being a salesperson and how routine is the “killer of sales careers.” He encouraged partners to “try something new” to reinvigorate their sales strategies.

Masergy Takes Home Hardware

Masergy was the recipient of CarrierSales’ Top International Provider of the Year Award. The global service provider last year achieved double-digit growth and a market valuation of nearly $1 billion.

John DeLozier, CenturyLink’s vice president of channel alliances, talked to attendees about his company’s long history, which began “selling phone systems door to door,” and how both it and CarrierSales have adapted to change. He also talked about overcoming obstacles and surviving, and upcoming opportunities from CenturyLink’s acquisition of Level 3 Communications.

“The unfair regulations, the things government throws on telcos, you wouldn’t believe it, but we’ve overcome then and will continue to overcome them,” he said.

Theresa Caragol, CEO of TCC – Achieve Unite, and CompTIA keynote presenter and instructor, talked about the latest IT and telecom trends, such as the arrival of cloud, staffing challenges, and how the Internet of Things (IoT) is transforming physical environments and social conventions. She also talked about the new types of companies emerging in the channel, and the challenge of getting young people interested in the IT channel to replace the high number of people who will be retiring in the coming years.

Comcast Business was the recipient of CarrierSales’ Cable Provider of the Year Award. It was introducing attendees to its new Channel Express app, which allows its solutions providers to organize messaging and sales materials specifically to their type of prospect.
