It was 7:35 p.m. PDT. The work day was not nearly finished. They seem to drag on into the night these days. The agenda and presentation for tomorrow mornings meeting had not been organized. To complicate matters, the two of us that needed to prepare the meeting were not only in two different parts of the country, one of us was on a plane. I was in my home office in Arizona; Terrapin Solutions Andrew Pryfogle was cruising at 39,000 feet headed to New York.
The solution? A real cloud-based application. Andrew, on a Wi-Fi-enabled plane bound for The Big Apple, was on instant messaging (see photo below). Sure, he was also using his iPad 2 to access his remote desktop, but we needed quick responses to complete our agenda. E-mail was just too slow. Instant messaging over 30 minutes did the trick. Quick, efficient messages were exchanged, the agenda was outlined, questions were posed and documented and a PowerPoint presentation was prepared.
More and more we have options to stay connected, to stay productive and stay on top of what is important. Many people may say that we are too connected. They may be right, but a video conference with instant messaging from 39,000 feet now that is cool (and productive). That is a real cloud-based application.
