ClearOne Debuts Portable Conference Phone

ClearOne unveiled in January the Chat 50 portable speakerphone for road warriors who just cant resist conferencing while traveling. The device plugs into a laptop or cell phone for hands-off talking. It also works with softphones, Web conferencing applications and media players. And once youve settled into your hotel room for the night, the speakerphone can be plugged into an iPod or MP3 player for listening to music or hearing gaming audio.

Qwest Expands Office Plus

Qwest Communications International Inc. has expanded its Office Plus service, which provides managed hosting, high-speed Internet and e-mail features for SMBs. The new offer has additional hosting capabilities that allow SMBs to build their own Web sites, and includes e-commerce services like online purchasing and credit card processing. The service also provides more e-mail accounts and greater data storage capacity, remote access to e-mail and synchronization between Web mail and Microsoft Outlook. Qwest Office Plus is available for sale by agents in the Qwest Business Partner Program.

XO Boosts Web Hosting

XO Communications expanded the Web hosting capacity and processing power of its Concentric Clustered Web Hosting services platform. Concentrics services target SMBs. A new server from Sun Microsystems lowers data center power consumption while giving users increased capacity and computing power. New bandwidthintensive applications and content such as Flash-enabled Web sites are consuming more of customers CPU resources.,

CosmoCom Upgrades IP Contract Center Platform

CosmoCom upgraded its IP contact center software platform, CosmoCall Universe, to support unified customer communications. There are several new e-mail tools. One, for example, now requires call center agents to reply to e-mails by specifying the from address of the reply (the platform provides a list of possible senders). This gives the agent immediate access to all previous messages in the thread and offers context for a customer inquiry. There also is one-click callback to e-mail and voice mail messages. Further, CosmoCom added capabilities so an agent can stay on the line for a consultation, create a conference or release the call at any time as a transfer. New reporting tools and video enhancements also are part of the new version.

ShoreTel Enhances IP PBX Call Center, Quality Monitoring Features

ShoreTel Inc. has call centers and network monitoring in mind. The company, known for making IP PBXs, released ShoreTel Contact Center 4.6 and the Shoreware System Monitor. The former now contains a universal queue function that routes calls to the appropriate agent; auto answer for inbound calls; and notification codes such as on break or personal appointment. The latter provides alerts and comprehensive views of network performance so IT managers and channel partners can isolate IP telephony problems before voice quality becomes an issue.

Siemens Launches New IP Phone Line

Siemens Enterprise Communications launched OpenStage, a new line of IP phones that use SIP to integrate wired, wireless and IP communications, providing new conferencing and call features such as push-to-conference, desktop call management and presence-based calling. The phones come with a touch-sensitive wheel for accessing the menu interface, and TouchSlider controls for adjusting handset, ringer and speakerphone volume. Built-in Bluetooth support also lets users plug in a Bluetooth headset to the OpenStage for hands-free operation. A USB port is included, available for backing up data and connecting to a wireless LAN using a WLAN dongle.
