The Sage Research Inc. Current Conditions Index in September 2004 recovered from a dip in July returning to ‘high’ territory (above 50), matching levels recorded in May 2004. The September jump primarily is credited to a 12- point increase in two subindices: stock market values and revenue. Slight declines were reported in the service development and employment subindices for the period.
The Service Provider Confidence Index is a tracking study with data collected bimonthly about both current conditions and expectations regarding spending on capital equipment, spending on product and service development, revenue, employment, investor confidence and overall. The expectations index recovered from its setback in July and back in high territory (over 50). Nearly all expectations subindices improved in September, led by gains in service development, stock market and overall conditions categories.
Despite the turnaround, the ‘expectations’ index is lower than it was in the same period 2003. For more details about the methodology, visit Sage Research at www.sageresearch.com.
