OPENET UPGRADES FUSIONWORKS
OSS provider Openet Telecom Inc. has released FusionWorks Mediation Version 4.1 so carriers can manage distributed operations and reduce new services’ time to market.
The upgraded version includes a featured named Multiple Workspaces, the Fast Data Store and enhanced error-event management.
Multiple Workspaces reduces the resources required to support additional installations and lets business processes reside on one system.
The Fast Data Store, an optional component, allows for the storage and retrieval of data for correlation at speeds up to 10 times faster than FusionWorks’ previous versions. Openet says this is especially important to operators rolling out data and VoIP services over legacy networks and billing systems.
Next, enhanced error-event management alerts carriers to service issues, so they can be fixed before they start causing revenue leakage.

METASWITCH BROADENS CALL-AGENT, DISTRIBUTEDNETWORK CHOICES
MetaSwitch, a vendor of Class 5 VoIP softswitches has extended its portfolio of softswitch products with the introduction of a new high-capacity call-agent server, the CA9020 Call Agent.
In addition, the company has announced that its VP3510 can be configured as a standalone media gateway and/or signaling gateway, enhancing the vendor’s distributed softswitch system.
This move makes MetaSwitch the first vendor to offer a choice of a media gateway or a server platform as call-agent options. MetaSwitch augments standard Intel-based servers for additional connectivity options and greater ruggedness.
In a softswitch network architecture, the call agent (also sometimes known as a media gateway controller) performs the call-processing functions, which include service intelligence, call-routing logic, lawful interception, control of subtended media and signaling gateways and billing.
The MetaSwitch Call Agent software, whether on the CA9020 or VP3510, performs all of these functions, delivering more than 100 Class 5 subscriber services as well as a broad range of Class 4 signaling transfer point (STP) and tandem capabilities. Protocols that it supports include SIP, MGCP, H.248 and SIGTRAN (SS7 and ISDN over IP/SCTP).
The Call Agent software conforms to softswitch standards, including the Multiservice Switching Forum’s (MSF) Release 2 Architecture. That compliance enables deployment of the products with third-party media gateways and signaling gateways, as verified at the recent Global MSF Interoperability event.
The CA9020 Call Agent is capable of up to 1 million busy-hour call attempts in a server just 2U high, making it one of the densest call-processing units available. The solution will be particularly attractive to larger carriers deploying distributed softswitch networks for consolidation of central offices up to 250,000 subscribers. In addition, the CA9020 supports eight physical gigabit Ethernet interfaces, allowing for secure network engineering with physically separate IP domains for control, media and management.
The new Call Agent server runs the same software load as the VP3510 Compact Class 5 Softswitch, confirming MetaSwitchs continued commitment to both the integrated compact softswitch and distributed call agent/media gateway deployment models. In addition, service providers who have deployed the VP3510 can move to the CA9020 thanks to automated installation and migration tools.

STALKER RELEASES NEW COMMUNIGATE PRO VERSION
Stalker Software Inc., which develops e-mail, collaboration and real-time communication technologies, has released the CommuniGate Pro v4.3 Real-Time Communications server, featuring an expanded SIP architecture.
The product enables small and large enterprises, telecoms and cable providers to use SIP for VoIP, multimedia, instant messaging, remote application sharing and other presence applications. In the new 4.3 version, the company has extended VoIP integration with e-mail to allow users to initiate SIP calls directly from their address books, using either the CommuniGate Pro MAPI connector for Outlook or Web mail.
CommuniGate Pro lets users make VoIP calls from their address books.
Stalker plans to include messaging control such as VoIP call management at the mailbox, and user-defined SIP filtering and spam prevention techniques.
CommuniGate Pro 4.3 also features three new graphical user interfaces (GUI) in 12 languages.
Current CommuniGate Pro customers in their maintenance periods will be able to upgrade to the new version at no charge.
Other customers using previous versions of CommuniGate Pro can upgrade to the newest version at 35 percent of the list price. The new version will start at $699 for the single server 25 user pack, with Dynamic Clusters ranging from 2,500 users scaling to 25 million or more users.
