Out of This World: Spring Channel Partners Expo Award Winners

The bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip were eclipsed by the shining stars of the telecom channel during the 2010 Channel Odyssey at the Spring 2010 Channel Partners Conference & Expo, March 1-3, at the Mandalay Bay. Exhibitors created a universe of education, motivation and entertainment with offerings that ranged from luge-inspired margarita dispensers and fully loaded commemorative beer mugs to up-close encounters with mixed martial arts stars and sharks. Attendees voted online to determine the Best in Show and PHONE+ is pleased to honor the constellation of winners and runners-up in each of seven categories.

s Swim With the Sharks event at Mandalay Bays Shark Reef Aquarium let guests experience the deep blue world of sharks and other sea creatures with 1.6 million gallons of seawater aquariums that included a walk-though acrylic tunnel that literally surrounded those passing through with the sights and sounds of the more than 2,000 aquatic occupants. It wasnt all finny business, though. There was also music, drinks, appetizers and a chocolate fountain that drew almost as much attention as the most exotic underwater displays.

Runner-up Intelisys Telecom Solutions party at Drais Afterhours, is a late-night must-attend event at Channel Partners. Guests couldnt resist the combination of lounge and dance floor  complete with one of the hottest DJs in town  and kept the club jumping until closing time.

World Telecom Group
was a winner with their Partner Perks Awards program which lets agents redeem awards earned during the Oct.1, 2009, through March 31, 2010, contest period to attend the companys annual Tee & Sea event. The 2010 event will be held May 13-14, at the Malibu Country Club in Malibu, Calif. In addition to WTG’s famous “Happy Hour on the Beach” (see photo from 2007s event), activities include a golf tournament, spa treatments, wine tasting, dinners at swanky Malibu eateries and more. Plus, agents are eligible to win more than $5,000 in prizes.

Runner-up Telarus offers agents sails for sales. Agents with $50,000 in sales during calendar year 2010 receive a cruise for two. Sales of $100,000 earn another cruise for four. The cruise is scheduled for February 2011.

Best Trade Show Theme


Mammoth Networks
and Utility Telephone tied in this category, apparently for their ability to get into the spirit of things.

Mammoth showed that it had a head for business with its theme Beer Is for Closers. Shop talk was conducted around a keg rather than a water cooler.

For its first appearance at Channel Partners, Utility Telephone chose the appropriate theme of Give us a SHOT and well return the favor. They illustrated their point with a shot glass giveaway.


ADTRAN
took runner-up honors with a 2010 Younified Tour theme that was an urban spin on the UC value prop its pushing through the channel.

Best Trade Show Promotion

First-place honors went to Telesphere which gave visitors to its booth a chance to meet, receive autographs from and have their pictures taken with UFC Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters Forrest Griffin (shown here) and Wanderlei Silva.

Runner-up McGraw Communications paid homage to the 2010 Winter Olympics by serving margaritas through an ice sculpture with a luge-inspired dispensing chute.

Best Trade Show Giveaway

Fine china is the traditional 20th anniversary gift. Winner Communication Management Services (CMS) chose to go with beer instead, handing out imprinted glass mugs full of the frosty brew.

Runner-up Pacnet made it easy to get it all together with an embossed portfolio organizer featuring pockets and zippered storage.

Best Trade Show Booth

Winner TelePacific Communications clearly thought outside the box on this one and ditched the traditional booth for a signature Vegas look with its 20×20 lounge featuring chic white furnishings on plush black carpeting.

Runner-up McGraw Communications turned cocktail hour into a sporting event with a logo ice sculpture that dispensed margaritas through a luge-like tube.

Best First-Time Exhibitor Booth

Green was definitely a go for winner Quest with a booth that put a celebration of the Ides of March side by side with information on its professional and cloud services.

Runner-up BlueStar Energy Services was a powerful presence at the show with its energy opportunity and Energy Sales Workshop sponsorship.

All winners will receive a trophy at the Fall 2010 Channel Partners Conference & Expo, Sept 20-22 in Washington, D.C.
