NEWS BRIEFS

LightCore,
a regional fiber-optic transport provider offering wholesale services to
secondary and tertiary markets, has completed its network expansion into Texas
and Louisiana. This expansion adds 800 route miles of long-haul and metro fiber,
and brings LightCores total lit and unlit network to more than 7,000 miles
covering 11 states. The new ring meets LightCores existing network in Oklahoma City and Little
Rock, Ark.

LightCore added carrier access points in Dallas, Tyler and Longview, Texas;
Shreveport and Monroe, La.; and Pine Bluff, Ark.

Cable & Wireless plc has
announced a new IP VPN Quality of Service interconnect service, Carrier Connect
MPLS, which the carrier says will overcome the complexity of extending
MPLS-based services across multiple international networks. The new system
reaches nearly 80 countries. Cable & Wireless officials say this will enable
national and regional carriers to spread their own IP VPN QoS services
throughout the world, without incurring the cost of deploying their own
networks.

TELEHOUSE America and
FiberNet Telecom Group Inc. have teamed to provide Ethernet capabilities
to the New York International Internet Exchange at 60 Hudson St. The companies
say the agreement simplifies the process for TELEHOUSE customers at the location
to connect to the NYIIX without separately negotiating an in-house fiber run to
the NYIIX suite. FiberNet also will provide Ethernet service for the NYIIX from
60 Hudson St. to TELEHOUSEs Broadway Center location.

Switch and Data,
a neutral interconnection and colocation services provider, has announced the
expansion of its MetroPAIX Layer 2 public peering fabric into its San Jose,
Calif., site. The 10,000-square-foot addition will allow Switch and Data to
provide access to nearly 140 public peering participants in seven places
throughout the San Francisco area.

Global Crossing has
signed a multiyear contract with Vonage to provide the broadband
telephony provider IP Transit, colocation service and domestic and international
voice termination services. Vonage enables users to make domestic and international long-distance
telephone calls over their existing high-speed Internet connections.

Gamma Telecom has
launched Gamma Access, an inbound service for international carriers and service
providers looking to enter the U.K. market without having to be located in-country.
Gamma Access includes geographic and non-geographic numbering options, and
provides voice termination services over its U.K. network, with international
connectivity.
