Dan Foster, long-time chief of MegaPath Inc.s channel program, is leaving the company after 10 years.
In fact, Foster is starting a career in a whole new sector: clean technology/renewable energy. He has landed a position with SolarCity, a solar-systems provider, where he will oversee sales.
Foster and MegPath didnt immediately respond to interview requests, so it was unclear how much MegaPaths recent acquisition activity the combinations of MegaPath, Covad and Speakeasy may have influenced Fosters decision, if at all. The question of Fosters successor also remained unanswered. Nonetheless, in an e-mail to friends and colleagues, Foster said he was ready to start out in a new, high-growth industry with a focus on global sustainability.”
My time at MegaPath was marked by lots of change, lots of friendships and incredible growth (I started when we were around $5 million, now [more than] $500 million),” Foster wrote. Ive enjoyed working in the industry and really find it hard to leave due to the people, whether its partners, customers or colleagues.”
Foster has served as executive vice president of sales and marketing at MegaPath since 2006. He returned to the channel in late 2007 after MegaPaths early 2006 merger with Netifice; when that deal happened, Foster moved over to build the companys SMB unit. But in 2008, MegaPath was ready to reinvigorate its channel program and brought Foster back to oversee the changes.
Since then, MegaPath has gone through more metamorphoses. Last year, MegaPath and Covad merged, then added Speakeasy to the mix. The companies billed themselves as a next-generation managed services local exchange carrier” with more than 85,000 business customers and more than 4,500 partners in North America. The operators put Speakeasys small business voice and data services with MegaPaths services for distributed enterprises, making them available over Covads nationwide broadband network. The new MegaPath is divided into two units: a wholesale department and a direct, business markets group.
