Windstream Wholesale will soon be in the Equinix data center campus in metro New York.

The company will offer 10-and 100-gig waves to companies operating within the Equinix data center campus in Secaucus, New Jersey. It expects to be in the Equinix facility by July.

In the meantime, Windstream is boosting capacity for future tenant Seaborn Networks. Windstream delivered four 100-gig waves from Ashburn, Virginia, to the international landing station in Wall Township, New Jersey. This will meet Seaborn’s immediate expansion needs.

When Windstream’s build is complete at the Equinix data center, it will move two of those waves to Secaucus.

John Nishimoto is vice president of business development for Windstream Wholesale. He said Windstream Enterprise agents can sell transport services from this data center to other on-net locations.

“Additionally, Windstream Wholesale’s presence in the new Equinix, New York, metro data center enables our carrier and content customers easier access to our diverse and unique routes to connect to other data centers, cable landing stations and other on-net customer locations,” he said.

Competitive Advantage

The expansion gives Windstream Wholesale a competitive advantage, Nishimoto said.

“Windstream can provide diverse routes into and out of this facility to enable vendor diversity,” he said. “Also, our competitive advantage includes our willingness to customize solutions for carrier partners as we did for Seaborn Networks. So this data center opens up more opportunities to do so.”

Windstream can provide services to other Equinix customers collocated in this data center, Nishimoto said.

“Our focus is to provide wave services between other major wholesale points of presence, primarily other data centers (Equinix or otherwise) or international cable landing stations (for instance Wall Township, Virginia Beach Virginia, Miami, Los Angeles) or cross-border (McAllen, El Paso and Laredo, Texas, and Montreal, Canada). We can also provide high-bandwidth internet transit services from this data center to any of the Equinix customers.”

Adam Janota is Equinix’s senior director of business development. He said Windstream is a “valued participant” among providers offering their services on Platform Equinix. He also said businesses at the campus will benefit from Windstream’s direct access to Seaborn’ sub-sea capacity.
