Adtran Enhances Network Visibility Tools

Upgrade

Adtran upgraded its software-defined access solution.

The Huntsville, Alabama, based networking solutions provider unveiled several portfolio updates this week. It has integrated SmartRG tools into its Mosaic Subscriber Experience Suite, including a SmartRG Device Manager. Adtran purchased SmartRG last winter.

“We are excited to capitalize on our acquisition of SmartRG by integrating their market leading assets into our Mosaic software suite,” said Jeremy Harris, Adtran product line management director. “Convergence of these tools into a common interface is a major leap forward for service providers looking to offer intuitive Wi-Fi monitoring, elevated subscriber insight and assured 4K video quality across multi-vendor networks.”

Mosaic is a suite of tools that give service providers a single interface for network visibility. Service providers often work with segmented management systems that complicate life for the people who manage multi-vendor equipment. Adtran noted that more than 150 service providers have adopted the suite.

“It is not uncommon for service providers to work with limited visibility into their network — usually resulting in preventable customer frustration at the cost of hours of customer support calls and numerous truck rolls,” said Michael Howard, IHS Markit carrier networks technology fellow and adviser. “We believe that service providers will want to examine these tools now integrated into Mosaic, since they are designed to save hundreds of hours in troubleshooting customer issues, which typically leads to happier customers and measurably reduced OpEx.”

Adtran also added new Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) to its 10G PON fiber broadband portfolio. Adtran made the announcements in at its 2019 Connect Press & Analyst Event. It also honored the service provider Lumos Networks with the “Build Your Best Network” award at its Broadband and Business Solutions Summit.

Meggin Sawyer, Adtran’s vice president of business solutions and cloud services, told us last year that the company’s channel has grown to include more MSPs and agents. The company announced a partnership with Telarus earlier this year. Several VARs have transformed into service-focused organizations, she said.

However, Sawyer said Adtran’s core hardware business remains solid.

“What we’re working on is, how do we help our provider marketplace navigate this change from a services perspective and add additional services to their repertoire to grow revenue and margins?” she said.
