Cybersecurity company Bitdefender has appointed Joe Sykora, formerly with Fortinet, to vice president of worldwide channel development, responsible for relationships with the company’s more than 7,000 reseller partners across globally.
Sykora has more than 20 years of experience in the security industry. He spent seven years at Fortinet and was its vice president of Americas channels, sales operations and advanced technologies. Prior to Fortinet, he founded, built and sold his own systems integration company, so his channel experience includes both the vendor’s and the partner’s first-hand perspective.
Sykora tells Channel Partners that Bitdefender’s overall channel program is “very solid and provides partners with a significant advantage with deal registration.”
“My team at Bitdefender and I will continue to improve processes, offering more focus and resources to the partners that lead with Bitdefender,” he said. “I am stepping into a role with an award-winning program in place. With that said, our goal is to continue to improve where needed, as well as release a partner strategy designed to reward those that invest in Bitdefender.”
Bitdefender has been — and always will be — a 100 percent channel-based company, Sykora said.
“Our strong program enables partners to accelerate their growth and profitability,” he said. “We plan to keep advancing with our partners at a hypergrowth rate with a special focus on developing and maintaining long-standing relationships.”
Bitdefender said Sykora’s appointment is part of its ongoing investment in increasing channel efforts and advancing its channel program. The company currently is transitioning from a regional to a global structure, allowing for standardization and consistency of structure, benefits and governance globally, while still allowing for customization to meet each region’s unique needs, it said.
This development falls in line with Bitdefender’s new deal registration program and enhanced marketing program, both released earlier this year.
Vincent Schiavo, Bitdefender’s senior vice president of worldwide enterprise sales and marketing, said the move to a global structure comes during a “period of intense growth for Bitdefender, and we are thrilled to have a luminary channel sales leader like Joe on the team to help build a strong foundation for a program that will support partners’ needs.”
Last summer, Rob Chomko, Bitdefender’s vice president of sales for North America, spoke with Channel Partners about his company and its channel strategy.
