Accel Networks Hires Comcast Vet to Help Launch Channel Program

Channel veteran Chris Whitaker has left Comcast Business to become director of channel sales at Accel Networks, a Sierra Wireless company.

Accel Networks' Chris WhitakerWhitaker is partnering with Greg Franzen, a former Windstream manager, who also has the director of channel sales title, to launch a channel program. He helped launch Comcast Business’ partner program and after 17 years in cable is making a move over to the fixed wireless business.

Whitaker has been a Comcast Business partner sales manager – channel manager since May 2011.

“Greg and I will split the channel world and work together to grow our program,” Whitaker said. “Our individual networks of partners do not have a lot of overlap, so we will cover a lot more ground this way. I will focus on the southern portion of the country coast to coast and he will work the northern portion coast to coast.”

Whitaker said his goal in the position is to “create a program that is agent friendly and creates a buzz that there is another diverse connectivity option in the market for partners to sell and earn a residual commission.”

Accel provides primary and backup connectivity services to more than 300 enterprise customers in sectors that include retail, finance, security, energy and hospitality. The company says its managed connectivity service and wireless link optimization help businesses make the transition from copper-based networks to 4G LTE by transforming a cellular link into an enterprise-class last-mile connection that is equal to or exceeds wired broadband.

Sierra Wireless announced its acquisition of Accel Networks earlier this year.
