Tech distributor Avnet has named Sean Valcamp as its new chief information security officer (CISO). This is a new position at the company.
Valcamp will be responsible for Avnet’s global IT security as well as enterprise architecture and strategic IT planning.
“Our position at the heart of the technology supply chain means information security is a critical focus area for Avnet,” said Steve Phillips, Avnet’s chief information officer and Valcamp’s boss. “Sean’s appointment as Avnet’s CISO is one of several ways that we are demonstrating our continued commitment to protecting our information assets, as well as those entrusted to us by our employees, customers and partners. Sean’s expertise, track record, and breadth of experience across the information technology landscape means he is ideally qualified for this role.”
Valcamp has more than 25 years’ experience in IT security, technology strategy, enterprise architecture and solution development – with 16 of those at Avnet. There, he has educated employees on security, established a global information security policy and built a security operations team that protects Avnet from security threats.
Valcamp also developed Avnet’s annual “State of IT Security: What You Need to Know” report, which helps employees and readers better understand major cybersecurity threats and tactics. He’s also active with customers and industry organizations, which get to learn from his expertise.
