Intelisys, the technology services distributor, continues to add to its cloud expertise with the hiring of Duane Barnes. Barnes will be a cloud sales engineer in a new role dedicated to the company’s sales partners in the Southeast.
Barnes comes to Intelisys from Open-Xchange, where he was vice president of presales and professional services. His background is in building complex data-center services that involve cloud computing, network, security, load balancing, managed services and disaster-recovery services.
“We have seen explosive growth in the Southeast,” said Rick Ribas, VP of sales, East region, for Intelisys. “Placing a dedicated resource in that area became a priority, in order to address and expand that region even further. Duane was an exceptional candidate, and he is the perfect person to help our sales partners uncover and define cloud opportunities, as well as guide them to the right suppliers at the right time, in order to take their businesses to the next level.”
Barnes holds industry certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, CompTIA, HP and EMC. As part of Intelisys’ Cloud Services and Complex Bids team, he joins experts in unified communications, contact centers, networking and software-defined networking, the company said.
“Cloud is the single most confusing word we have in technology,” said Barnes. “Every CIO and IT manager has a different definition, but they can only talk to so many vendors. I look forward to helping to educate our sales partners and their customers on the wide variety of available cloud solutions. I’m committed to providing both scope and value.”
Before Open-Xchange, Barnes was director of Solutions Engineering for Windstream. He has also held leadership positions at MPInet, PowerOne Communications, and The Walt Disney Company.
It’s been a busy season for new hires at Intelisys, which is really focused on the cloud. Just last month, the master agent named Chris Oppold – who has cloud experience – as a regional channel manager in the Mountain region. In September, it hired Matt Bonomo as a cloud sales engineer for the Central region.
