At its “Telecom Tour” stop in Scottsdale, Arizona, this week, PlanetOne Communications introduced “Cloud 411,” a new online resource where the master agent’s partners can access vendor whitepapers, PowerPoint presentations and other materials to boost their cloud knowledge.
“Anything pertaining to cloud is there,” Ted Schuman, PlanetOne CEO, told a crowd of about 200 attendees at Scottsdale’s Talking Stick Resort on Wednesday. “Disaster recovery, virtualization, hosted voice … you can find the information at Cloud 411.”
The company says changes to the site will be made on a regular basis, so content will remain current and fresh. Resources such as Cloud 411 will be critical for partners moving forward, Schuman said in an interview with Channel Partners, noting that even the most knowledgeable solution providers are struggling with their understanding of the intricacies of cloud and other new technology, as well as the new business models that result.
“The cheese in our industry is moving. The cheese is moving because of the cloud,” Schuman told the crowd. “Go back to school. Look at your own business and see how well-positioned you are going forward.”
Furthering the rodent metaphor, “You’ve got to spend time on your business, not in your business all the time. That’s the mousetrap,” he added.
When not regaling them with tales from his playing days on the diamond, baseball legend and guest speaker Pete Rose had some advice of his own for the business leaders in attendance.
“If you’re going to ask people to go to ‘bat’ for you, as the boss it’s up to you to know what makes your personnel tick,” Rose said.
PlanetOne also announced that it’s establishing a business advisory board featuring people from outside the industry who can offer a different perspective than those who are immersed in it every day.
