CenturyLink has announced a new tool to help its partners demonstrate flexibility, options and choices when talking to customers about switching to VoIP.

CenturyLink's Ted FitzgeraldCenturyLink Business Communicator is an application that connects business VoIP users to their unified communications (UC) services from computers and mobile devices. CenturyLink’s VoIP offerings include UC features such as high-definition voice and video calling, conferencing, desktop sharing, instant messaging and presence.

Ted Fitzgerald, CenturyLink’s manager of voice product management, tells Channel Partners that its partners have a lot to gain from the new application.

“For partners that work with us and already support our VoIP portfolio across the BroadSoft platform for SIP trunking, hosted VoIP and managed services, Business Communicator … demonstrates CenturyLink’s commitment to innovate for our partners and customers to help them make the most of this software-enabled and IP-based voice platform,” he said.

Business Communicator is the newest addition to CenturyLink’s voice portfolio offered on BroadSoft’s BroadWorks platform. BroadWorks enables CenturyLink to deliver supported as well as managed versions of hosted VoIP and SIP trunking.

CenturyLink also offers business customers across all market segments a range of UC tools that use the BroadWorks platform.

“Business Communicator is a great option for our partners that want to help customers with a highly mobile workforce become more productive and efficient,” Fitzgerald said. “Because it works for both SIP trunking and hosted VoIP customers, it is great for partners who want to make it easier to work with multi-site customers or other customers who blend SIP trunking and hosted VoIP, and want to make improvements in both the end customer experience and the ease of administration.”

“If your outdated phone system is expensive to maintain and doesn’t meet the mobility and collaboration needs of your business, it is probably time to look at all the functionality available with VoIP,” said Thuy Ha, CenturyLink’s director of product management and business solutions.

CenturyLink believes the future of business will happen on IP platforms using software-defined technologies, and that’s what Business Communicator offers, Fitzgerald said.

“Business Communicator is a great example of how CenturyLink is using software-defined technology and the IP network to bring our customers productivity and efficiency gains today, and it will be an efficiency and mobility option for the channel and for end-customers in 2015 and beyond,” he added.
