There’s little doubt that security is trending in 2015. How channel partners address their customers’ pain points might very well make the difference between a sale and striking out.
A series of newly released products and services aim to help partners and their clients who require secure options for file sharing, mobile-device management and more.
The first is from CloudBerry Lab, a vendor of cloud backup and storage management solutions for MSPs and SMBs. The company’s new CloudBerry Box is a file sync and share product with its eyes on competing against Dropbox and Box.
CloudBerry Box has both public and private cloud options – deployed in a private cloud environment with an Amazon S3 or OpenStack-compatible interface. The company CloudBerry Box is different because it allows users to choose a preferred cloud provider and move data through direct connections between endpoints and their cloud-storage accounts. No third-party Web services are involved in data processing. Users control the data encryption keys, providing extra security.
The service is currently available in beta as a free download. The company says the cost will be just a few pennies per gigabyte in most cases.
“Finally, SMBs and the resellers who serve them have an affordable, flexible solution that provides truly secure access to shared files from many locations,” said Alexey Serkov, CTO at CloudBerry Lab. “CloudBerry provides the technology necessary to coordinate changes between users, while also storing the data securely at the cloud provider of their choosing.”
Meantime, MSPs whose SMB clients need to protect extremely sensitive data have a new option in Breach Secure Now!, a new division of HIPAA Secure Now!. Breach Secure Now! is a white-label service that lets MSPs set their own pricing.
The platform features in-depth security risk assessments, detailed security policies and procedures, and employee security training. There also are tools that scan for personally identifiable information such as Social Security and credit card numbers, and system vulnerabilities. Further, the service comes with $100,000 in cyber-insurance coverage. Breach-response services include legal, forensic, breach notification and ID/credit monitoring.
HIPAA Secure Now! said it created the new platform in response to partner requests for a data-security service for non-health care customers.
Security is always top of mind in a BYOD environment, but DataXoom Corp., which provides wholesale mobile-data services, is first and foremost concerned with saving businesses money. Its new data plans designed for businesses that welcome their employees to bring their own devices to work.
“IT leaders can spend half a million dollars to buy and support 1,000 enterprise-owned tablets, while they can support 2,745 user-owned tablets with that same budget,” said Federica Troni, research director at Gartner. “Without a stipend, direct costs of user-owned tablets are 64 percent lower. When organizations have several users who want a tablet as a device of convenience, offering a BYOD option is the best alternative to limit cost and broaden access.”
DataXoom provides both 3G and 4G mobile data network connectivity for tablets, mobile hotspots, and other devices used by midsize and large businesses. The company has wholesale relationships with the nations’ largest mobile operators, and its service is available nationwide on three of the four largest U.S. networks. One of those is AT&T; DataXoom just joined the carrier’s Partner Exchange reseller program last month.
