The demand for business-class carrier Ethernet services has never been higher.
New research from Vertical Systems Group projects that customer installations of carrier Ethernet services in the U.S. will reach 1 million ports just four years from now. The number includes all retail Ethernet services at speeds ranging from under 10Mbps to more than 10Gbps.
"Enterprises and SMBs will make purchase decisions to deploy hundreds of thousands of new Ethernet ports throughout the next several years, facilitated by a range of service options and competitive price points that have never been better," said Rosemary Cochran, principal at Vertical Systems Group.
VSG reports a 26 percent increase in port installations last year. The researcher says growth is driven by the rising customer demand for bandwidth, coupled with falling service prices.
