T-Mobile Woos Beleaguered Sprint Customers, Offers Free Data for Referrals

Not surprisingly, T-Mobile doesn’t seem too impressed with Sprint’s newly announced pricing plans that double data and lower prices for families.

Here are some quotes from the Magenta Network in its latest news release:

  • “Sprint’s customers have suffered much.”
  • “They’ve endured America’s slowest nationwide LTE network.”
  • “They’ve endured the Framily.”
  • “It’s hard to watch.”

Pulling no punches as usual, America’s fourth-largest wireless operator is encouraging T-Mobile customers to “save their friends and colleagues still with Sprint.”

The Magenta Network’s new offer, starting next week, gives its existing Simple Choice customers unlimited LTE data for a full year at no additional charge if they get a Sprint customer to switch to T-Mobile. T-Mobile Simple Choice customers who already have unlimited LTE data receive a $10 credit each month for 12 months. (It applies to AT&T and Verizon customers as well; T-Mobile is just taking the opportunity to shove the knife into Sprint this time around.)

With his usual bluster, T-Mobile CEO John Legere said: “It continues to amaze me to see the old carriers failing to listen to their customers – or reward them for their loyalty. That arrogance and indifference has defined the U.S. wireless industry for too long. We’re changing all that. In fact, this entire “uncarrier” consumer movement is built on the simple act of listening to customers.”
But it’s hard to argue with success. T-Mobile has added more than 1 million new subscribers each of the last several quarters thanks in part to that “uncarrier” philosophy that eliminated two-year customer contracts and smartphone subsidies.
