Verizon Tops for Air Travelers, T-Mobile Makes Big Gains

**Editor’s Note: Which is America’s top wireless network? Click here to see what we discovered.**

Frequent flyers might know this already, but if they don’t, it might help them choose a wireless carrier.

Mobile-analytics firm RootMetrics is out with its list of top-performing networks at the 50 busiest U.S. airports in the first half of 2014.

Verizon is either the outright winner or tied for the lead in 30 of them — up from just 19 in the second half of last year. T-Mobile more than doubled the number of airports where it either leads or can claim a share of the lead, going from nine last fall to 20 in these latest measurements. AT&T experienced a big fall, going from 36 top rankings to just 11. Sprint leads in none of the airports.

Curious which airports ranked best for mobile data performance? The top five are Southwest Florida International (Fort Myers); O’Hare (Chicago); John Wayne Airport (Orange County, California); Memphis International; and General Mitchell (Milwaukee). The bottom five are Louis Armstrong (New Orleans); Philadelphia International; Newark Liberty; Minneapolis-St. Paul; and San Diego International.
