Apple users are itching for the release of the iPhone 6 and this week, some rumors about the device’s unveiling hit the interwebs that probably only fueled the fire.
First, photos circulated on sites including GSM Insider, purporting to show the 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions of the much-anticipated new iPhone.
Those photos were displayed on a flier written in Chinese; the piece also featured an oddly un-corporate background, adding to suspicion that the flier was not put out by Apple. Given Apple’s penchant for secrecy when it comes to its new products, we doubt the flier was sanctioned or produced by the company. Anyone can get their hands on Photoshop.
Meantime, analysts at investment bank UBS projected a specific release date of Sept. 19. That fits with previous iPhone release timelines of Sept. 10 for the 5s and 5c last year, and the 5 on Sept.12 two years ago.
But other media outlets say there will be two release dates: the first for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, the second for the 5.5-inch model. The Mirror says Apple wants to avoid the situation it faced in 2013 when it put out the 5s and 5c at the same time. Demand for the iPhone 5s was higher than Apple predicted causing supply problems and delays. Reportedly, suppliers including Foxconn, which are hiring thousands of new workers, are being told to make up to 80 million units.
