New research reveals that an astounding four out of 10 U.S. consumers has lost a mobile device, whether a smartphone or tablet.
Inhance Technology says that men (46 percent) are more likely to have lost their device, had it stolen or damaged beyond use compared to women (37 percent). A whopping 63 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 34 say one of these things has happened to them.
“The findings highlight the importance of insurance and warranty programs from the consumer perspective,” commented Paul Prendergast, CEO, Inhance Technology. “However, with such high levels of potential claims, it also emphasizes the importance for wireless retailers, carriers and insurance firms to have the most sophisticated technology in place to reduce claims and minimize fraud.”
The survey revealed that 40 percent of U.S. consumers are most likely to lose their mobile device while commuting. It’s even higher in the U.K. (46 percent). One quarter (25 percent) of Americans are most likely to suffer loss of their mobile in a bar or night club compared to 36 percent in the U.K. But those are hardly bragging rights for the U.S. American consumers (18 percent) report losing their device at home! Just 8 percent in the U.K. said so.
