Big-Screen iPhone 6 Release Date Pushed Back? Geek Nation Panics

That was a stunned silence you just heard from iPhone-o-philes out there.

Apple, which is rumored to have two versions of its iconic iPhone in the works, might not be ready to release one of them this fall as first thought.

Want a really big iPhone? You might have to wait until 2015.In a new note, KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo – considered one of the more reputable forecasters when it comes to Apple gadget rumors – says that the purported 5.5-inch “phablet” iPhone 6 won’t launch this fall alongside a 4.7-inch version of the Silicon Valley giant’s flagship handset, Apple Insider reports. Kuo says production lines in Asia are backed up working on the smaller model, which still sports a significantly larger screen than its predecessor, the 4-inch iPhone 5s.

Kuo cites delays related to “in-cell touch panel” technology and uneven color on the smartphone’s metal casing. “These problems will likely be even more complicated with a larger size,” his note reads.

He also raises concerns about the durability of the larger screen in drop tests, perhaps leading to further delays. At best, Kuo predicts that the 5.5-inch device could be available by mid-November, but after the first of the year might be a better bet.

This is all assuming there will even be two new iPhones. Apple hasn’t confirmed anything. About the only thing we know for sure from past history is that Apple will unveil at least one new piece of hardware before the year is out.
