Cook unexpectedly left EarthLink last month. He told Channel Partners the decision was his, but he did not disclose his plans. Now, we know what was in the works.
Cook assumes a brand-new position at the master agency and technology services distributor as the indirect channel continues its metamorphosis toward a solutions-provider mindset, away from transactional sales. His job is to develop new, innovative opportunities for Intelisys’ sales and supplier partners, all while helping to guide Intelisys through ongoing industry change, as well.
But that’s not the only transformation at hand. This marks the first time in his career that Cook has not worked for a carrier. According to his LinkedIn profile, since 1996, Cook has served in various roles, all of them tied to the channel, at Mpower, TelePacific Communications and EarthLink – all service providers. Now, Cook has the chance to put his years of working with master agents such as Intelisys to new use.
“I could not be more excited about bringing my years of experience and relationships to this side of the fence to further enhance the Intelisys value proposition,” Cook said.
One of Cook’s first tasks is to work with Dana Topping, co-owner of Intelisys, on a project that promises to expand the company’s international reach. Topping said Cook’s overall efforts “will be critical in defining new ways Intelisys can attract and support the industry’s top-performing partners.”
Jay Bradley, president of Intelisys, agreed.
“This is a critical role at a critical time for Intelisys, and J.R. is absolutely the right person for the assignment,” he said.
