Amazon Reportedly Picks AT&T for Smartphone Exclusive

**Editor’s Note: Click here for our recent ranking of hottest selling smartphones.**’s highly anticipated new smartphone won’t be available from Verizon Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile or any smaller operators – at least in the near term.

If you want to buy the online retail giant’s first-ever handset, you’ll need to be an AT&T customer, “people familiar with the plans” told the Wall Street Journal ahead of Wednesday’s product announcement in Seattle.

Amazon hopes to set itself apart from the glut of other devices out there by offering a smartphone that displays images that appear to be three-dimensional without the use of 3-D glasses. Reports have said that the phone will feature sensors that track your eye movements.

Amazon has found some success with its Kindle Fire tablet PC, and hopes to duplicate – or improve on – that with this new smartphone.

AT&T had an exclusive on the iPhone in the U.S. for several years before Apple signed agreements with its rivals. The carrier hopes this can give it a new advantage.
