Appia Communications Inc., a cloud communications and network services provider that sells through the channel, has launched its desktop-as-a-service product.
Many SMBs have moved their phone services to a hosted model, and Appia believes they will do the same with their desktops.
Both approaches “save capital and operating dollars, and free up IT staff to focus on more mission-critical projects,” said Victor von Schlegell, president of Appia, in a press release. “In addition, cloud desktops provide much better security since data are stored in the cloud, not locally.”
Appia is basing its DaaS on Microsoft Windows 7, but it also can include Office, hosted Exchange, applications such as Adobe Reader, different browsers, and programs such as CRM platforms. There’s also the ability to work from smartphones and tablets. Appia further has included file, print, domain and storage servers, and secure backup.
