Tech Data Corp. has taken its mobile practice global.
The distributor on Tuesday introduced Tech Data Mobile Solutions, available to resellers worldwide.
Coinciding with that strategy, Tech Data appointed Rod Millar as senior vice president of Tech Data Mobile Solutions and Heather Murray as vice president of the unit. Millar has worked for Tech Data since 2007 and most recently served as president of Tech Data Mobile in Europe, while Murray is a 15-year veteran of the company who moves up from director of sales and marketing at TDMobility.
Millar, who has relocated from the U.K. to Tech Data’s Clearwater, Fla., headquarters, will lead the direction, operations and execution of the worldwide mobile business, including Tech Data Mobile in Europe. He will report to Nestor Cano, president, Europe and Joe Quaglia, president, the Americas.
Meanwhile, Murray will lead the sales, marketing, and operational functions of Tech Data’s mobile business in the United States. She will report to Millar.
“Mobile products and solutions continue to be a strategic focus for Tech Data throughout our worldwide operations,” said Bob Dutkowsky, CEO of Tech Data. “This new organizational structure further solidifies our commitment to the growing mobile space and better aligns our resources to this important component of our company strategy.”
Tech Data has made big strides in bringing mobility products and services to VARs and solution providers, who typically have had a hard time managing the options by themselves. With BYOD, M2M, carrier services, activations, devices, lifecycle management and more in play, IT partners have sought help in starting and running a mobility practice, and more distributors have stepped up to deliver such components.
