AT&T is rolling out an incentive for T-Mobile customers to switch, just days before the Magenta Network plans to do the same.
AT&T is offering T-Mo customers up to $450 per line if they cut ties with their carrier, trade in an eligible smartphone and sign up with the Dallas-based wireless giant.
Here are the specifics of the deal: Beginning today, under the limited-time offer, T-Mobile customers who switch to AT&T can trade in their current smartphone for a promotion card of up to $250, which can be used toward AT&T products and services. Trade-in values vary based on make, model and age of the smartphone, but many of the latest and most popular smartphones will qualify for a value of $250, AT&T said. T-Mobile customers can get an additional $200 credit per line when they transfer their wireless service to AT&T and choose an AT&T Next plan, buy a device at full retail price or activate a device they currently own.
It was reported last month that T-Mobile is planning to announce next week at the Consumer Electronics Show an offer to pay the early-termination fees for AT&T customers who want to switch to T-Mo. The next phase of the Bellevue, Wash.-based company’s “uncarrier” strategy, the deal will supposedly give customers who switch as much as $350 in credit for ditching their old provider. Stay tuned.
