Level 3 Chairman Announces Retirement

After 50 years, Walter Scott Jr. said he will retire from the Level 3 Communications board of directors. Scott, 82, who has been on the board since 1964  the last 34 as chairman  will hang it up in May.

James Ellis Jr. has been named Scott’s successor. Ellis, who’s been on the Level 3 board since 2005, is also a board member at Lockheed Martin, Dominion Resources and Inmarsat PLC.

“It has been an honor to serve as a member of the Level 3 Board and its chairman,” said Walter Scott. “I believe both the company and the management team are in a strong position and now is the right time for me to transition the leadership of the board to Jim, and I look forward to continuing to lead the board through the 2014 annual meeting. I want to thank all of the Level 3 employees for their hard work and dedication, as I believe that we have the best people in the industry.”
