Dell Inc., which now is a private company, has shaken up its channel organization and observers agree that resellers should benefit from the changes.
Greg Davis, Dell’s channel chief, sent a letter to the company’s 143,000 partners this week, announcing that he is moving into a new role in the software and peripherals unit and being replaced by Cheryl Cook. Cook now assumes the title of vice president of global channel and alliances; she was vice president of enterprise solutions. Cook came to Dell from Sun Microsystems where she held responsibility for that vendor’s Americas channel.
Cook will oversee areas including training and certification and marketing programs.
Dell is working to become an IT solutions provider, rather than just a computer maker. In that vein, the company is putting indirect and direct sales under one organization, but Davis assured partners that’s a good thing.
Our channel strategy and the global nature of our PartnerDirect program will stay the same,” Davis wrote in a memo obtained by Channelnomics. We will continue to focus on: winning in the data center, investing in training, being easy to do business with, and being your long-term partner. And PartnerDirect will continue to enable the sale of end-to-end and point solutions through one simple, consistent program.”
