XO Communications on Wednesday debuted Bandwidth-on-Demand for businesses, becoming the latest provider to offer such a service.
tw telecom in July made a similar announcement.
XO Bandwidth-on-Demand pairs with the company’s network services that support cloud. And XO says its platform differs from that of other providers because the VPN port automatically scales to accommodate need.
“Other services require pre-scheduling (and pre-knowledge) of traffic fluctuations,” an XO spokeswoman said.
In addition, users choose from a 1G or 10G VPN port, but only need to commit to 100MB for the 1G service, or 1G for the 10G service. That means the customer doesn’t have to pay for “all the bandwidth all the time,” the spokeswoman said.
If bandwidth consumption goes over the committed level, the network will expand to handle the extra traffic while also maintaining the quality of service agreement that may be in place, XO said.
XO Bandwidth-on-Demand is available through channel partners.
