AT&T’s Aio Reassures Customers Forced to Make Cricket Move

Aio Wireless says its customers have nothing to worry about, even as they’re poised to get their prepaid mobile service under the Cricket brand.

“The brand will change but the essence of what we are will not,” Aio announced in a statement on its website. “The new Cricket will build and expand on Aio’s premise of creating wireless without compromise and delivering a simpler, more delightful experience to our customers.”

AT&T launched Aio to select markets in May of 2013 and went nationwide in September; however, after AT&T announced in July that it would acquire Leap Wireless, dba Cricket Communications, things changed. The carrier said it would shut Aio down and move customers to Cricket once the acquisition closes that’s anticipated to happen soon. Leap shareholders approved the $1.2 billion deal late last week.

” … there will be nothing our Aio customers need to change. Under the new Cricket brand, Aio customers will continue to enjoy the same great network coverage and experience they enjoy today. No changes needed for their devices or phone numbers. After the proposed merger closes, customers will enjoy the benefits of a stronger, nationwide prepaid service,” Aio said.
