Verizon has been tasked by the government to help fix the new health-care website, HealthCare.gov.
An anonymous source from within the telecommunications industry told the USA Today that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) asked Verizon’s Enterprise Solutions division to improve the performance of the health care site, the portal Americans use to sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
HHS has said that it would go beyond government contractors to other companies that might be able to solve the website’s problems more quickly.
Both HHS and Verizon declined to comment on the USA Today article.
Healthcare.gov has been riddled with problems since it went live earlier this month. It’s been locking up frequently and requiring people to spend hours, in some cases, trying to sign up for coverage.
