Is Apple‘s new iPhone 5c a flop?
No, but the Silicon Valley giant is cutting the production of the less-expensive device in half, from 300,000 units per day to just 150,000, according to Chinese news site C Technology.
While no official reason has been given for the production cuts, it is believed that there is much lesser demand for the 5c compared to the 5s. It’s been widely reported that the flagship iPhone 5s has been a much bigger seller.
Customers ordering the 5s online via the Apple Store have been notified they’ll have to wait until later this month to get their hands on the phone, but the 5c has seen no such delays.
Wal-Mart and T-Mobile this week lowered the price tag on the 5c.
Even if 5c sales aren’t up to what were expected, most other companies would do anything for the numbers Apple has put up with its new handsets. The company sold 9 million of them in the first three days they were on the market last month. And the 5c still beat out every phone except its big sister and the Samsung Galaxy S4 in our list of September’s hottest sellers.
