Cisco, Microsoft Lead the Way in UC

A new survey finds that video and cloud are on the rise in the enterprise.

Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 2013 UC Strategies and Vendor Leadership: North American Enterprise Survey, which explores enterprises’ plans for unified communications, including cloud deployments and their respective perceptions of UC vendors.

Cloud usage is increasing, with 22 percent of respondents having already implemented portions of their UC architecture in a private cloud, and 19 percent in a public cloud. The survey found that collaboration is the most common application deployed in either cloud followed by conferencing and faxing. Cost is the main barrier for businesses that have not adapted unified communications.

“The biggest change we’re seeing in unified deployments is the adoption of video,” said Diane Myers, principal analyst for VoIP, UC and IMS at Infonetics. “Businesses have been implementing more mobility into their UC architectures over the past year and are now looking toward video conferencing to help drive further productivity.”

The survey found that companies are adopting unified communications to improve response times, increase employee productivity and reduce operational costs. Also, 87 percent of surveyed enterprises are planning on adding videoconferencing to their UC architecture by August 2014.

“The vendors that can effectively deliver integrated video and mobility into their UC solution and do so in a simple and easy-to-use manner will be best positioned for success,” added Myers. “According to enterprises participating in our UC survey, Cisco and Microsoft are the leaders in unified communications thanks to their installed base and perceived positions of leadership.”
