The Lumia 929 for Verizon. The Lumia 1520 “phablet” (codename Bandit). The Lumia 2520 (codename Sirius). Release dates for one, two or all could come at a special event next month in Abu Dhabi.
In fact, six new devices are in the offing from Nokia at the United Arab Emirates event on Oct. 22, if The Verge sources are to be believed.
The high point of the event might very well be the debut of the six-inch Lumia 1520 smartphone-tablet hybrid, often referred to as a “phablet.” It would easily be Nokia’s largest handset to date. The tech website says Nokia is planning on unveiling a “large range” of form factors and devices four weeks from now. One of those could be its first Windows RT tablet, the rumored 2520.
The tablet has been highly anticipated ever since Microsoft and Nokia teamed up for the first time two years ago. Microsoft released its first Windows tablet, the Surface, last year, but until now, nothing from Nokia.
Microsoft is in the process of buying Nokia’s devices unit. Many in the industry are naturally curious as to how that will all play out.
