to see which channel people were on the move in June and July.**
HP has created a new top channel position, separating oversight of its direct and indirect sales teams.
The move comes about six months after HP CEO Meg Whitman told partners that she is committed to the channel and would end the circumstances in which direct salespeople were taking over partners’ accounts.
As part of those efforts, Whitman late Friday named Sue Barsamian as senior vice president of HP worldwide indirect sales. Barsamian now leads the Enterprise Group’s channel business, an HP spokeswoman told Channel Partners in an email.
“Meg has made changes to her leadership team to help ensure that the right person is in the right job at the right time to help customers and partners along their journey towards the ‘new style of IT’,” the spokeswoman wrote.
HP said almost 70 percent of the Enterprise Group’s revenue comes from the channel. Therefore, “it is imperative that this team has strong leadership.”
The spokeswoman added, “Under Sues leadership, we have clarity in strategy and focus in execution positioning the breadth of HPs technology portfolio for a singular purpose, to help our partners deliver enterprise outcomes that differentiate them in the marketplace.”
The timing likely is not a coincidence as the latest quarter nears its close. HP’s fiscal third quarter earnings saw a 9 percent year-over-year drop in Enterprise Group revenue. Barsamian’s appointment also underscores the reassignment of former HP Enterprise Group Executive Vice President Dave Donatelli; he was moved out of that job in August and, in various reports, several channel partners expressed relief over that decision. In tandem with Donatelli’s reassignment, HP put Bill Veghte in charge of the enterprise group, in particular its cloud initiatives.
Barsamian has worked for HP since 2003. Her most recent title was senior vice president and general manager, global sales and operations, enterprise group.
