Two months ago, Verizon Wireless said its 4G LTE covers 500 markets, reaching just about everyone in the country including 99 percent of the territory where its 3G network operates. AT&T said this week it’s closing the gap.
AT&T got off to a slower start in the LTE race, rolling out its first 4G in summer 2011, several months after Verizon launched LTE in its first markets. But AT&T now plans to reach more than 420 markets by the end of the year, covering 270 million people. It currently is available to 225 million people in 370 markets.

AT&T says customers in those areas will "stream, download, upload, and game faster than ever before."
AT&T and Verizon Wireless have been engaged in a war of words over whose network is the most reliable. AT&T got kudos last week from J.D. Power & Associates, which gave the carrier props for "best wireless purchase experience."
