Lightower Fiber Networks, which now owns Sidera Networks, on Monday announced a 1,500-mile expansion of its fiber network throughout Virginia and the Washington, D.C. metro region.
The addition comes as part of Lightower’s expansion strategy, begun in May 2012. As such, the Boxborough, Mass. company said it will start building 1,100 route miles throughout much of Virginia and into North Carolina. Then, it also will construct 400 route miles in Washington, D.C.s metro region, including parts of northern Virginia and southern Maryland. The effort will combine new and existing network.
Lightower said it’s experiencing high demand from enterprises, educational institutions, and government and military agencies. The company will start bringing customers online to its expanded network this fall.
