HP has updated its lifetime warranty policies, in part to give channel partners new revenue opportunities.
The changes "definitely" go back to CEO Meg Whitman’s directives that HP simplify the way it does business with VARs, Kash Shaikh, senior director of product and technical marketing, HP Networking, told Channel Partners late last week. Indeed, 90 percent of HP’s networking business comes from the channel, Shaikh said. So, the company expects its new warranty upgrades to only boost that momentum.
To that point, HP’s lifetime warranty now includes, at no extra cost, remote, around-the-clock support for up to three years. Covered products include HP FlexCampus, FlexBranch and small business products. The company’s warranty policy already featured next-business-day replacement for hardware such as fans and power supplies, and free software downloads for life of the product.
The 24/7 tech support in HP’s warranties gives partners a new selling point, said Shaikh.
"We want to free up some of the [customer’s] operations costs and move that over to innovation for the organization," he said.
