tw telecom’s quarterly profit fell $6.2 million to $13.1 million, compared to the first quarter of 2012, due to higher interest and depreciation expenses. Earnings per share amounted to 9 cents compared to 13 cents a year ago.
Meanwhile, revenue increased 6.2 percent to $381.2 million from $358.9 million for the first quarter, thanks mostly to enterprise customers ordering data and Internet services. Ethernet- and VPN-based products showed 14.3 percent growth. tw telecom said data and Internet revenue represents 53 percent of total revenue for the quarter, compared to 49 percent in 2012’s first quarter.
Finally, the Colorado-based provider reported that voice revenue comprised 24 percent of overall quarterly revenue, compared to 25 percent a year earlier. And network services made up 21 percent of revenue, down from 24 percent in the first quarter of 2012.
