Ingram Micro Inc.‘s cloud unit has been bulking up services for partners and adding to the list of vendors they can sell.
The company this week held its 2013 Cloud Summit in Phoenix, Ariz., where it debuted a number of announcements.
For example, the former IMSN portal has been upgraded and rebranded as IM Link. Ingram Micro also launched a “cloud seeding” initiative, which relies on suppliers including Cisco, SherWeb and Trend Micro to give resellers access to direct mail and email campaigns, webinars, telemarketing and events as they build their cloud practices.
“A good, solid business plan equal dollars available for you,” said Renee Bergeron, vice president of managed services and cloud computing for Ingram Micro.
Ingram Micro further unveiled Cloud Desk, comprised of vendors such as Rackspace, Amazon Web Services and IBM. Cloud Desk targets IaaS partners, in particular, who need technical support while building clouds. Support is provided by Ingram Micro employees trained in each vendor’s cloud products and services. IaaS resellers have special interest in Cloud Desk because they need help with the move away from the on-premises model.
Meantime, Ingram Micro underscored its new vendor partnerships as well. On Monday, it announced a deal with software giant SAP, for reseller access to mobility platforms for SMBs, and on Tuesday the distributor said it has teamed with RingCentral for cloud phone systems, and CenturyLink and Time Warner Cable for network services.
Other supplier announcements included Birst, Box, SaaS provider Cornerstone, CyrusOne, DocuSign, Medweb, NextGen Healthcare and Reflexion. As a result, Ingram Micro said it now offers more than 170 cloud products and services.
The vendor additions come as Ingram Micro’s cloud unit sees big growth. Bergeron said the company signed 856 new resellers in 2012, for a total of 4,000.
