Green Cloud Technologies, which sells only through the channel, has landed $5.6 million in new Series C equity from an existing investor.

So far, the South Carolina-based startup has gotten a total of $9.6 million in funding. This latest round came from Millry Corp., Green Cloud’s largest backer. Green Cloud will use the money for market expansion, sales and marketing, and data-center investments.

Green Cloud also said Walter Alessandrini is joining the Green Cloud board. Alessandrini previously served as chairman and CEO of Avanex, and chairman and CEO of Ometric. He also worked as president and CEO of both Pirelli Cable & Systems North America and Union Switch & Signal.

Green Cloud relies on platforms from BroadSoft, Cisco and VMware to provision its cloud services. Led by the founders of NuVox Communications, the company offers managed IT and telecom solutions for SMBs, including virtual server, hosted PBX, unified communications and business continuity.
