Taiwan-based HTC, coming off a successful year that saw its series of Android-based “One” smartphones sell relatively well in both the U.S. and around the world, is getting ready to roll out what most are calling the “M7,” its new flagship device.

The company is planning media events in London and New York City later this month it’s assumed the debut of the M7 will be the topic. The new handset will go on sale on March 8, sources tell tech site HTC Source, but which providers will offer it, and which countries you can find it in at launch, remain a mystery for now. In the U.S., Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile are rumored to carry it this spring.

The M7 or whatever it will be called at launch reportedly comes with a 4.7-inch 1080p HD display and a spectacular 13MP camera. It’ll have a powerful, quad-core, 1.7GHz processor under the hood, along with 32GB of storage and 2GB of RAM.

HTC is in the midst of a fierce battle with Apple, Samsung, and a handful of other handset manufacturers, trying to lure both the general consumer and the business user in what’s become an intensely competitive smartphone race. While Samsung and Apple might be out of reach for now, there is market share to be had, and the race for third promises to be a fierce one among HTC, Motorola, BlackBerry, Nokia and others.
