Network-security provider Fortinet has unveiled what it calls a high performance security blade for its firewall, the FortiGate-5001C. The company says the new blade provides large data centers as well as private and hybrid cloud deployments with consolidated security capabilities and uncompromised network performance.
The new blade is also ideal for large Internet gateways and centralized managed security services providers (MSSPs), Fortinet added.
By consolidating multiple security services while delivering high throughput with low latency, the FortiGate-5001C is designed to protect low-latency networks and multi-tenant cloud customers against the latest blended threats and Web-based attacks. In addition, Fortinet says its virtual domain (VDOM) and administrative domain (ADOM) technologies enable granular control over the deployment of the new security blade to partition networks on the basis of individual customers, groups of subscribers and/or business units.
The FortiGate-5001C runs FortiOS 5. The new operating system includes more than 150 new security features that are designed to help protect against todays Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and targeted attacks. These enhancements include four key elements: advanced malware detection; exploit discovery and protection; cloud-based reputation systems; and a multi-vector policy engine.
“Fortinet continues to raise the bar for firewall performance in enterprise networks. With the FortiGate-5001C, large enterprises, particularly those looking at data center consolidation, and managed security service providers can deploy the security they need without introducing latency. Security no longer needs to be a ‘speed bump,” said Chris Rodriguez, senior industry analyst for Frost & Sullivan.
