CenturyLink Inc. said on Thursday it has combined parts of its Enterprise Markets Group (EMG) and Regional Markets Group (RMG) into one organization.
The company did not immediately say how the change impacts the channel but is arranging a Channel Partners interview with Blake Wetzel about the revamp.
In a press release, CenturyLink said the reorganization brings together the business sales and operations functions in the Enterprise Markets Group Network Services and Regional Markets Group. The former was part of Qwest Communications International Inc. and the latter was CenturyLink. CenturyLink bought Qwest in a $22 billion deal finalized in May 2011.
Glen Post, president and CEO of CenturyLink, said in a prepared statement that the combination streamlines service delivery, support and sales to network services enterprise customers, because only one organization will now focus on them.
CenturyLink’s Wholesale Markets Group and Enterprise Markets Group Data Hosting are not affected by the transition. Savvis, the cloud, colocation and managed hosting services firm acquired by CenturyLink, will remain its own division in the Data Hosting group.
This latest consolidation comes almost a year after CenturyLink reduced three organizations focused on business and government segments into two groups. EMG was serving national and international Business Markets Group customers, while RMG concentrated on in-region large businesses, and state and local government clients. Jim Ousley, CEO of Savvis, had been running Savvis and EMG, while COO Karen Puckett had been overseeing RMG. The merged entities now report to Puckett.
CenturyLink said it is keeping its local market and consumer-focused teams.
