AT&T’s Southeast Workers Ratify New Contract

AT&T‘s wireline workers in the Southeast have finally agreed to a new union contract.

The employees approved on Friday a deal that covers 22,000 workers in nine southern states. A previous agreement in September, given the green light by both AT&T and Communications Workers of America negotiators, was rejected by the union body.

The new three-year contract gives the workers wage hikes approximately equal to standard cost-of-living increases. At the center of the battle was a debate over how much they would have to contribute to their monthly health-care coverage.
