BlackBerry 10: RIM Tries Desperately to Keep Enterprise Customers as Release Date Looms

A new program from Research In Motion encourages businesses to get themselves prepped for the launch of BlackBerry 10 services on Jan. 30, 2013.

The BlackBerry 10 Ready Program includes a handset giveaway, a webcast series, a trade-up program, and a set of services to help businesses migrate to the new BlackBery platform.

Two of these components, the Blackberry 10 Ready Offer and the BlackBerry 10 Ready Webcast Series, can be accessed today. The company will allow access to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server License Trade Up and BlackBerry 10 Readiness Services components ahead of the global BlackBerry 10 launch in January.

Through the BlackBerry 10 Ready Offer, organizations can receive a free handset if they have BlackBerry Technical Support at the Advantage level or higher. Companies must also install RIM’s BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, a mobile-device management product, and complete an online learning course to qualify.

BlackBerry’s webcast series will provide information and answer questions about the new enterprise product portfolio, and it will “prepare enterprise customers with the tools they need ahead of the launch,” the company said.

Using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server License Trade Up component, customers can trade their existing BlackBerry Enterprise Server licenses at no cost when they buy their BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

Finally, through the BlackBerry 10 Readiness Services, the company offers customers change management and planning-migration tools to help provide a “smooth migration path” to the new services.

We remain committed to our enterprise customers and want to provide them with a head start on understanding the power of BlackBerry 10 and preparing their existing environments for the new mobile computing platform,” said Bryan Lee, senior director, Enterprise at RIM.

The BlackBerry 10 Ready Program gives customers access to a variety of services, information, tools, and special offers to help ease their transition to BlackBerry 10 and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10,” he added.

RIM has been heavily bleeding market share in recent years due to intense competition from Apple and manufacturers of Android-based handsets. The company’s collapse in the enterprise space hasn’t been quite as drastic, but a report released last week paints an ugly picture for the Canada-based handset maker.

That being said, RIM has seen its stock price rise over the past couple of months due to reports of positive reaction from wireless carriers concerning the upcoming launch of BlackBerry 10 devices.
